What is Family Therapy
Family therapy is a type of counseling that focuses on improving communication, resolving conflicts, and strengthening relationships between family members.
It’s based on the idea that problems don’t exist in isolation—they’re often influenced by the dynamics, history, and patterns within the family system. In family therapy, a trained therapist works with two or more members of a family (sometimes the whole household) to:
Identify and address challenges such as conflict, communication breakdowns, mental health concerns, parenting struggles, or life transitions.
Understand each person’s perspective and how family roles, expectations, and patterns affect relationships.
Build healthier ways of interacting so the family can work together to solve problems and support one another.
It can be short-term or long-term, and it’s helpful for families experiencing challenges like divorce, blended family adjustments, grief, cultural differences, or supporting a loved one with mental health or substance use concerns.
