What is Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy is a specialized form of counseling designed to help individuals heal from the emotional, psychological, and sometimes physical effects of traumatic experiences.

Trauma can result from events such as accidents, abuse, violence, loss, natural disasters, or any experience that overwhelms a person’s ability to cope. Trauma therapy focuses on:

Creating a safe, supportive environment where individuals feel understood and secure.

Helping people process and make sense of their traumatic experiences in a way that reduces distress.

Teaching coping skills to manage symptoms like anxiety, flashbacks, or emotional numbness.

Supporting rebuilding a sense of control, safety, and empowerment in daily life.

Therapists may use evidence-based approaches such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Trauma-Focused CBT, somatic therapies, or other trauma-informed techniques.
